OMD Detail New Album, ‘Bauhaus Staircase’

The new record was birthed out of the "total boredom" of COVID-19 lockdowns, says the group's Andy McCluskey

OMD have a new album on the way.

Spanning 12 tracks, Bauhaus Staircase comes six years on from the group’s last studio album, The Punishment Of Luxury, with work beginning on it amid the "total boredom" of COVID-19 lockdowns, band member Andy McCluskey said in a statement. To mark the album’s announcement, the group have shared the album’s title track, which is said to be a nod to McCluskey’s love of the Bauhaus era as well as to the power of protest art. You can watch a video for the song above.

In a statement about the album’s lead single, McCluskey said: "I am a huge lover of visual arts, especially mid 20th century movements. The song is a metaphor for strength and artist passion in the face of criticism and adversity. When times are hard, there is a tendency for governments to look at cutting funding for creativity, just at the moment when the arts are most needed to nourish our souls. It seems appropriate that the song and its eponymous album were created during COVID lockdown."

100 Percent will release Bauhaus Staircase on October 27, 2023.
