Oliver Coates Reveals New LP, ‘Throb, Shiver, Arrow Of Time’

It's the cellist's fourth album for RVNG Intl.

Oliver Coates has a new album on the way, titled Throb, Shiver, Arrow Of Time.

Spanning 10 tracks, it marks the British cellist’s fourth album for US label RVNG Intl., and arrives off the back of Coates’ work on a number of film soundtracks. He considers the new record a sequel to 2020 album Skins N Slime, according to press materials shared with the announcement of Throb, Shiver, Arrow Of Time.

You can watch a video for album track ‘Apparition’, which features longtime collaborator Malibu, below. The visual was made by Charlotte Wells, whose 2022 film Aftersun was scored by Coates.

In a statement about the video, Wells said: “When Olly sent me the track and shared Sarah Sze’s work as the feeling of a video – refracted, chaotic, searching – I thought of an experiment of sorts that friend/artist/collaborator Greg Oke did a while back using personal photographs in rapid succession. Olly shared thousands of photographs from the past eight years or so and I kind of curated them, encouraged them into the timeline while remaining deferential to the serendipity of their chronology and structure; repeated, inverted, whatever. There’s intention, but mostly just life.”

RVNG Intl. will release Throb, Shiver, Arrow Of Time on October 18, 2024.
