NYX, the collective and drone choir made up of eight vocalists, will play a series of live shows alongside other musicians starting next month and rolling through into 2019.
The collective is formed from trained opera singers, contemporary musicians and producers experimenting with collective and self sound manipulation, and is led by vocalist and composer Sian O’Gorman. The shows will see them teaming up with other musicians, including Gazelle Twin and Optimo Music’s Iona Fortune, to play live.
The first show takes place at London’s Pickle Factory on October 28 and will see NYX play alongside Erased Tapes-affiliated vocalist Hatis Noit. The collective will compose and improvise ambient backings to Noit’s music. On December 9, they’ll team up with Gazelle Twin to improvise a new interpretation of her latest album Pastoral.
"It’s been an extraordinary opportunity to combine the experimental brains of so many female artists in one room, who have offered their imagination and generosity in the development of NYX," say the collective. "Together, we’ve explored drone as a very human, very generous mode of music. It offers the performers and audiences to share the same breath and heartbeat, without conscious hearing but rather a deep listening."
