Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Festival has shared details of its 2023 edition, which will see it take place at a new location.
The festival will return in November across three sites along the Nile River: The Jinja Golf Course, Source of the Nile and the Jinja Showground. Camping will no longer be available on site but will be offered by partnering hotels. A two-day East African music conference will kick things off at this year’s edition, before the full music programme runs across four days.
The festival returned from a COVID-19-enforced three-year break in 2022 at a new site, Itanda Falls. This brought about a number of problems, however, and organisers now describe the site as "too far and too complicated" to return to for 2023.
This year’s festival will take place with a theme of ‘Back To The Source’, and will take in a number of Nyege Nyege Tapes affiliates and artists from across the East African region. Organisers have also said other artists on the bill, which will be announced fully in the coming weeks, will hail from countries such as Nigeria, South Africa and Brazil.
