As we reported last week, Sam Willis and Alessio Natalizia of Walls have set up a new label, Ecstatic, and we’re excited to host the full stream of their first release, Not Waving’s Double Blind EP (free to download from Ecstatic’s Bandcamp here) – listen below:
Not Waving is a new project by Natalizia, which, as well as "80s weird Italian electronica, Manuel Gottsching, Peter Bauman, This Heat, Ike Yard", revolves around the ‘remote viewing’ project developed by Stanford Research Institute parapsycholgists in the 70s. The essence of that idea, that people could view hidden, distant objects using extra-sensory perception and paranormal techniques, seems to have buried itself deep within the cuts on the EP. The central core of each is built around spiralling, arpeggiating synth lines, around which half-heard, echoed voices and melodic lines ring, vapour-like, in the peripheries, fitting for Natalizia, operating here under the idea "I want to give a sound to places I don’t know".
Double Blind is set to be followed by another EP, Ability To Gain Access, on April 8, which will also be free to download on Bandcamp, in advance of the full album, Umwelt (artwork above), mastered by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, out on May 6.
