Nine Inch Nails to Score New ‘Tron’ Film

'Tron: Ares', due to premiere in 2025, will mark the band's first movie score

Nine Inch Nails are set to score an upcoming film in the Tron franchise, Disney has confirmed during a presentation at a D23 (Official Disney Fan Club) event in Anaheim, California.

As Pitchfork reports, the announcement was made at the event this past Friday (August 9), with the film set to be called Tron: Ares. It will mark the third movie in the sci-fi series, and will be released to cinemas in October 2025.

While Nine Inch Nails’ core members, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have a longstanding history of writing movie scores (such as The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Bird Box and, more recently, Challengers), this will mark the first time that the full band have worked on a film soundtrack to produce new Nine Inch Nails songs. This will mark the first material from the band since the release in 2020 of the fifth and sixth instalments of the Ghosts series.

Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges and Greta Lee. It follows the 2010 release of Tron: Legacy, which was scored by Daft Punk. A trailer for the new film was shown at the D23 event, but has not yet appeared online.
