Nick Cave And More Contribute To New Birdsong-Inspired Compilation

There are also features from Jarvis Cocker, Kamasi Washington and Karen O, among others

Downtown Records has shared details of a new compilation inspired by birdsongs, titled For The Birds: The Birdsong Project.

Due out in September, the 20xLP, 242-track box set takes in music from the likes of Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Jarvis Cocker, Kamasi Washington, Karen O, UNKLE, Beck, A. G. Cook, Beach House, Hatis Noit, and Damon Albarn. There are also recitals of bird-related poetry included among the collection, voiced by Tilda Swinton, Robert Pattinson, Jeff Goldblum, Greta Gerwig and others, while the vinyl box set comes with a 60-page book with essays and paintings of birds by visual artists. Listen to Beck’s contribution to the release, ‘Archangel’, above.

"The Birdsong Project is a community dedicated to the protection of bird life, and to the celebration of the joy and mysteries of birdsong," said the team behind the compilation in a statement. "We believe that birds — no matter feather or flock — are precious and inspiring and fundamental to our world. That a world without birds would be a world without freedom and flight and song."

Downtown Records will release For The Birds: The Birdsong Project on September 12, 2022.
