This Saturday afternoon, The Barbican is host to an extraordinary lineup of feminist writers, activists and artists.
Among the events: literary magazine The White Review are running a writers’ discussion about the body in fiction, poetry and non-fiction; Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff of Gal-dem will lead a panel discussion on the experiences and myths of the Caribbean matriarch in the UK; historian Joanna Bourke, writer So Mayer and activist Lola Olufemi will discuss consent, trauma, solidarity and power; there’s a screening of ace new documentary Worlds Of Ursula Le Guin; a workshop on strengthening the global sex workers’ rights movement; and Bethany Rutter and Tallulah Pomeroy will help you to reclaim all that is “gleeful, gross and beautiful” about your body in their Unruly Bodies workshop.
Organiser Sarah Shin says: “The myths that continue to dominate the world around us are overwhelmingly patriarchal. Today we’ll explore the new stories and counter-narratives that are being invented to build feminist futures.” We say: “YES PLEASE.”
