Kate McGarrigle Dies Aged 63

Mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright passed away yesterday after battle with cancer

Folk singer Kate McGarrigle died yesterday aged 63 after losing her battle with cancer.

McGarrigle – who was formerly married to Loudon Wainwright III and was the mother of Martha and Rufus Wainwright – passed away yesterday from a rare form of cancer according to CBC News.

The singer, who was born in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts, Quebec in 1946, recorded ten albums over 30 years with her sister Anna McGarrigle, starting with 1975’s Kate and Anna McGarrigle and culminating with 2005’s The McGarrigle Christmas Hour.
