Cat Power Going Back To Solo Roots

Singer will record next album entirely on her own

Cat Power will record her next album – the follow-up to 2008’s Jukebox – entirely on her own.

Power has used The Dirty Delta Blues Band as a backing group for her last several albums, but she plans to provide the majority of the instrumentation for her next record by herself.

She told the Courier-Mail: "Its just me this time, I’m at a point where my heart tells me, ‘Chan, you haven’t played piano or guitar for four or five years,’ and I do have guilt about that.

"People ask me, ‘When are you going to play by yourself?’ I have problems with strange yearnings and guilt."

Power, whose real name is Chan Marshall, also revealed that the new album will feature new material for the first time since 2006’s The Greatest, adding: "Instead of ‘Jukebox’ I was going to put out another record. I didn’t get back to those songs and I kept writing more and more.

"I’m also frightened because some of them are sad again, and I feel really nervous about that."
