Extreme metal outfit Voices are currently working on their as-yet-untitled third album, and above you can take a look at a brand new video from the group for one of the album’s tracks.
‘Petrograph’ is both strange and dark, or – as guitarist Samuel Loynes puts it – "as punishingly brutal as a morning commute during a heatwave rush hour". Amen (pun intended) to that. Metal fans will be familiar with the Voices musicians – Loynes plus Peter Benjamin, Daniel Abela and David Gray – through their association with a multitude of London-based bands, most notably the progressive death metal act Akercocke. Like the Ak, Voices have carved their own identity into the metal template, evoking a dystopian vision of the capital.
As Loynes explains: ‘During the pre-production and composing of our third album, we entered the studio with the idea of producing a song out of vast, intense improvisation. We fell deep into the rabbit hole, and ‘Petrograph’ is what emerged. We transformed the demo into an audiovisual piece, and here it is, as much of a punk-fuelled affair as it is black metal."
