New Spinal Tap Film Gets Long-Awaited Release Date

The originally planned 2024 release of the sequel to 1984's This Is Spinal Tap was previously delayed due to the Hollywood strikes of 2023

Spinal Tap II, the long-awaited sequel to 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap, has finally been given its long-awaited new release date.

The film had originally been set for a March 2024 release but was delayed due to Hollywood’s writers and actors going on strike in 2023. It will now be released on September 12 of this year, according to a report by Deadline.

New York-based independent film company Bleecker Street is handling US distribution for the new movie. In a statement, Rob Reiner, who directed and co-wrote the original film and returns for Spinal Tap II, said: “So happy to be working with the folks at Bleecker Street who are passionate about keeping Tap‘s legacy alive and happy to give [the character Reiner plays] Marty DiBergi another shot at relevancy.”

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer will also reprise their roles as members of Spinal Tap in the upcoming movie, while Paul McCartney and Elton John are listed among the guest stars.
