WATCH: New Radian Video

The track appears on the trio’s seventh LP

Viennese instrumental outfit Radian have today revealed the video for ‘Scary Objects’, taken from their album released in November 2016, On Dark Silent Off.

The video, which you can check out above, created by visual artists Billy Roisz and Dieter Kovacic, is a stark, gritty companion to the track’s industrial pulse. Layered images of rotating records, gnarled sketches and rolling tyres appear mechanical within the videos greyscale theme.

It makes for an ideal pairing for the group’s clamorous and metallic composition. Terse atmosphere and glitching, noisy cuts have been at the core of Radian’s output since their debut in 2000. But with On Dark Silent Off being their first release in seven years, the dense textures and grainy atmospheres now seem to be unleashed with a greater sense of catharsis. ‘Scary Objects’ is a testament to this and it is something that is mirrored by the bursts of released tension that occur throughout Roisz and Kovacic’s video.

For the video, Billy Roisz and Dieter Kovacic used microscopic cameras to dig into the grooves of vinyl, a Go-Pro camera for shooting roads in motion, and a green-screened ramp for the various ‘scary objects’ that they captured. On Dark Silent Off is out now via Thrill Jockey.
