New Pornographers’ Singer Starts Kickstarter For ALS Doc

Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers launches a Kickstarter campaign for a documentary about motor neurone disease

After learning that her mother may only have two to three years left to live due to motor neurone disease (ALS), The New Pornographers’ Kathryn Calder has set out to create a documentary that illustrates her struggles to complete her debut solo record while giving full time care to her mother.

The film traces Calder’s move back into her old house, converting its living room into a recording studio and working on Are You My Mother?, her 2010 debut, as well as featuring footage of her performance in her hometown of Victoria, British Columbia, playing on July 4, the ALS awareness Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day.

Entitled A Matter Of Time, it is currently in post-production and its makers, in association with charity t-shirt designers The Yellow Bird Project, are seeking $50,000 to complete it.
