The Motionless Present is a new release made up of previously unreleased poems and music pieces by Philadelphia-based artist and activist Camae Ayewa, otherwise known as Moor Mother.
With that record soon set for release via The Vinyl Factory, above, we are premiering ‘This Week’, which features contributions from New York-based producer Geng. An affecting, faintly cinematic six-minute piece, the track takes in occasional scattershot beats tied around words from Ayewa, explicitly referring to police brutality against black people.
Across the record, Ayewa touches on subject matters that speak to the current black American experience as she did on last year’s album, Fetish Bones, and the new record is described as "a statement towards understanding the disconnect between humanity and injustice".
The release takes in collaborations with other acts and new projects, such as Black Quantum Futurism, 700 Bliss and Mental Jewelry. The record was created in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory before Ayewa’s performance at Berghain in Berlin late last month as part of CTM Festival. It’s out soon and can be pre-ordered here.
