Singer-songwriter and producer Hannah Peel has announced the upcoming release of a new Erol Alkan radio mix of her single ‘Hope Lasts’, and you can check it out above right now.
The original track featured on Peel’s second solo album, Awake But Always Dreaming, released last year. Speaking about ‘Hope Lasts’, Peel said: "This quote from the late John Berger encompasses the song for me, ‘Hope is not a form of guarantee; it’s a form of energy, and very frequently that energy is strongest in circumstances that are very dark.’
"I wanted the lyrics to reveal an ease and happiness, seeing over and beyond any troubles. This album came from a dark place by experiencing the devastating gradual loss of memory of my grandmother, yet I was able to relive moments with her when she heard familiar music. There was always hope to connect in music and words each day and it was these moments of pure joy and optimism that I will treasure and keep safe for the rest of my life."
Peel previously collaborated with Erol Alkan on his 2016 album with Richard Norris as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, while her band, The Magnetic North, also released an album, entitled Prospect Of Skelmersdale, early last year. She will play live across the UK over the next couple of months too, with shows at Norwich’s Arts Centre (March 24), Liverpool’s Threshold Festival (April 1), Birmingham’s The Sunflower Lounge (April 3), Cambridge’s The Portland Arms (April 4), Brighton’s The Prince Albert (April 5) and London’s Oslo (April 12) all lined up. You can find out more about those dates here.
Erol Alkan’s take on the track is out on April 7.
