Godspeed You! Black Emperor will release their fifth studio album next month, entitled Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress. The album will be released by the band’s established base of Constellation and will be GY!BE’s first single LP-length release since their early years of 1997-1999, clocking in at 40 minutes over its four tracks – a stark contrast to the relative marathons of previous albums such as Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven. You can stream an excerpt of the album’s opening track – ‘Peasantry or ‘Light! Inside of Light!” – above. Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress was recorded in North Carolina and Montreal with engineer Greg Norman, over the course of late 2013 and 2014. It marks their first release since 2012’s Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! which was the band’s first new release since 2002.
GY!BE are also announcing upcoming UK tour dates today, alongside the album, taking in Manchester’s Albert Hall, Dublin’s Vicar Street, Glasgow’s ABC and London’s Shepherds Bush Empire from April 17-20, respectively. All the details for those dates can be found here. Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress is out March 30.
