New Carbon Negative Festival, CURRENTS, To Launch In October

The Luckenwalde event will host sets by Suzanne Ciani, Dopplereffekt and others, and is curated by Romanian duo Khidja

A new one-day festival, billed as one of the first ever 100 percent carbon negative electronic music events of its kind, will take place in the German city of Luckenwalde this October.

CURRENT will take place at the city’s E-WERK Luckenwalde venue, and features a lineup curated by Romanian DJ/producer duo Khidja. They’ve invited the likes of Suzanne Ciani, Dopplereffekt, Lena Willikens, Breadwoman, Wojciech Rusin, Svitlana Nianio, Marylou, Ladr.Ache and Alicia Carrera to play at the inaugural edition of the festival.

The not-for-profit event "will be powered entirely by Kunststrom (art power) – electricity generated with locally sourced waste wood," according to a press release.

In a statement about the festival, Khidja said: "History’s sacred architecture was first and foremost revolving around sound, the Greek amphitheater remains to this day an astounding acoustical marvel. It’s like carving a giant concrete ear into the side of a mountain. The venues for CURRENTS were carefully chosen and prepared with this in mind. The space, the energy and the community sense that music brings through its physicality becomes a euphoric ritualistic experience, a living instrument of change."

CURRENTS will take place on October 8, 2022. Find more information here.
