Tomorrow night, London’s Cafe Oto are hosting a "double bill of outré song and folk forms" featuring New Bums and Tara Jane O’Neil.
The former are the acoustic singer-songwriterly project of Ben Chasny, otherwise known as the Six Organs Of Admittance main man and a Comet On Fire since 2003, and Donovan Quinn of fellow Californian psych-folk band The Skygreen Leopards. They got together in 2009 after Chasny moved to Quinn’s neighbourhood in San Francisco, but only just released their debut album, Voices In A Rented Room, this year through Drag City. We debuted ‘Black Bough’ last year, and they’ve since made a video for ‘The Killers And Me’, both of which you can hear/see below:
Earlier this year, Tara Jane O’Neil released Where Shine New Lights, here follow-up to 2009’s A Ways Away and her first for venerable Chicago indie Kranky. O’Neil, former bassist for Rodan, has released a staggering amount since her time with the short-lived Louisville collective, putting out records as part of Retsin and The Sonora Pine, collaborating with Ida, Danielle Howle, Come, Saturday Looks Good To Me, Victory Park and Nikaido Kazumi and solo, with Where Shine New Lights the seventh she’s released under her own name. Download ‘Wordless In Woods’ from Where Shine… below and head to Oto’s website for tickets.
