Malian duo Amadou & Mariam have returned with ‘Bofou Safou’, their first new music since 2012’s Folila. You can listen to the track above.
The sharp, synth-driven number shows the pair moving into a more Afrobeat infused disco and funk direction, away from the African blues rooted guitar work of their previous output. The light, danceable energy of the track is paired suitably with its title, a Bambara term for nonchalant young men who would rather dance than work.
The track is set to appear on Amadou & Mariam’s forthcoming eighth album La Confusion, which will be released later in the year on Because Music.
Amadou & Mariam have also announced a string of shows for the coming months, including their first London show in over five years at KOKO on May 24 and an appearance at End of the Road Festival on September 3. You can check their full list of upcoming tour dates in Europe here.
