Vermillion is the new solo album from Trembling Bells’ Alex Neilson, recorded under the name Alex Rex. Above, you can check out a first taste of the album with single ‘Postcard From A Dream’.
The track has something of a country twang to it, and has been given a rather evocative visual accompaniment in the NSFW video above. The video is described thusly: "Ninja attacks under Eric Gill memorials, whiplash madames in S&M dungeons, Morris dancers at the Golden Hind and cruising in Abney Park cemetery: ‘Postcard From a Dream’ is a hallucinatory trip around London’s seedier cultural landmarks. Directed by Tom Chick and Alex Neilson, ‘Postcard From a Dream’ combines Nicholas Roeg-style visual voluptuousness with Russ Meyer-esque tomfoolery."
Neilson says that a reading of Ovid’s Metamorphoses informed much of the lyrical content in the album which features guest musicians Lavinia Blackwall, Mike Hastings and Rory Haye. It’s out on Tin Angel Records on April 28.
Neilson will play as part of Trembling Bells on tQ’s stage at this year’s Sea Change Festival in Totnes. That takes place from August 26-27 and you can get more information and tickets here.
