Neil Young To Release Shelved Crazy Horse Album From 2001

'Toast' was recorded by the group at San Francisco's Toast Studios, but Young decided it was too "sad" to put out at the time

Neil Young has revealed plans to release for the first time an album that he recorded in 2001 with his band Crazy Horse.

Toast was produced at San Francisco’s Toast Studios, but plans for its release were shelved at the time by Young himself. Writing on his own website last year, Young said: "Toast is an album that stands on its own in my collection. Unlike any other, Toast was so sad that I couldn’t put it out. I just skipped it and went on to do another album in its place. I couldn’t handle it at that time." Listen to ‘Standing In The Light Of Love’ from the album above.

Speaking further about the themes explored on the record, Young wrote: "The music of Toast is about a relationship. There is a time in many relationships that go bad, a time long before the break-up, where it dawns on one of the people, maybe both, that it’s over. This was that time."

Reprise will release Toast on July 8, 2022.
