The Quietus is having press release for lunch today, gagging as we are on news of Lily Allen’s second album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, which is released February 9th 2009.
The latest long-playing emanations from the "Wordsworth of the Myspace generation" (© the press release) will feature twelve tracks that spookily envisage what would happen "if Alan Bennett were to be channeled into the body of a 23-year-old female pop star" (© the press release) and will be preceded by a single, ‘The Fear’, on January 26.
It’s Not Me… is the follow-up to 2006’s 2.5 million-seling debut Alright Still, a record which earned Lily recognition as "not only as the foremost musical talent of her generation but also as the most innovative" (©… whatever).
As a lyrical taster of what we might expect from the album, we have only this unattributed couplet to go off:
"Now I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed,
I’m feeling pretty damn hard done by, I’ve spent ages giving head"
Hmm. Here is the tracklisting for the record:
Everyone’s At It
The Fear
It’s Not Fair
22
I Could Say
Go Back To the Start
Never Gonna Happen
Fuck You
Who’d’ve Known
Chinese
Him
He Wasn’t There
…and here is Lily on her show ‘Lily Allen & Friends’, giving a snickering interview performance worthy of a Newsround Bratpacker with ‘web phenomenon’ Tay Zonday:
