Via the Gqom Oh! label, Nan Kolé has been showcasing some of the best music emerging from the Durban scene via producers such as Cruel Boyz, Citizen Boy and more, and now he’s ready to release a record of his own via Black Acre.
Streaming above is ‘Malumz’ from the EP. Billed as a tribute to Gqom Oh!, the track is built around the sounds that have come to characterise much of the music coming out of Durban, with high-energy percussion sitting alongside a faintly acidic melody. The track has also been remixed by some key Gqom artists in Citizen Boy and Formation Boyz, while the record is rounded off by lead track ‘Bayefal’.
"I stopped producing music over the last three years, mainly because of the work I was doing with Gqom Oh! and other changes in my life didn’t allow me proper time in the studio," Nan Kolé says, “but I now feel that this is just the start." The record is out on April 14
