The fifth edition of Future Now, a two-day festival of new music in Birkenhead, has been announced for next month’s bank holiday weekend.
Headlined by Nadine Shah and Everything Everything, this year’s festival takes place across five stages and four venues – Birkenhead Town Hall’s grand Assembly Rooms, Make Hamilton, Joy and Future Yard. Future Yard, the venue which has organised the festival, will host two stages: one indoor and one outdoor.
Elsewhere, the lineup features the likes of Jane Weaver, The Lovely Eggs, bdrmm (their fourth time appearing at Future Yard), She Drew The Gun, Man/Woman/Chainsaw and a number of rising acts. 14 of the artists on the bill are the products of Future Yard’s ‘Propeller’ programme of artist mentorship and development.
The festival is also a part of Wirral Borough of Culture, as was the case for its first edition in 2019, and will take in a screen print gig poster exhibition at Make Hamilton for the duration of the event, curated by local artists Toucan Tango. Local students from Wirral Met College will additionally be exhibiting work based on a brief about Birkenhead.
Elsewhere, there will be a guided tour of The Leftbank Soundtrack, and an audio walking tour of Birkenhead that features music from Andy McCluskey of OMD, Half Man Half Biscuit, Bill Ryder-Jones and She Drew The Gun.
Future Now will take place from August 24 to 25, 2024. Find more information here.
