Last month, it was revealed that all music uploaded to Myspace by users between 2003 and 2015 had been lost to what was described as a "server migration project" by the social network, with the total loss estimated at over 50 million songs.
Now a large quantity of that music has been recovered by The Internet Archive, a website that describes itself as "a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more."
1.3 terabytes of mp3s recovered from Myspace that had thought to be previously lost have been made available through the site. Archivist Jason Scott shared the link to the tracks, saying that around 490,000 mp3s uploaded between 2008 and 2010 were amongst the package. They were recovered thanks to an "anonymous academic group" who had downloaded the files for their own use.
