Music Declares Emergency Unveils First Bioplastic Record

The organisation is giving away 20 copies of the plant-based record via a Crowdfunder prize draw

Environmental pressure group Music Declares Emergency has unveiled the world’s first publicly available plant-based, bioplastic record.

Produced in a very limited run, the record – titled No Music On A Dead Planet – includes four tracks by artists from the Ninja Tune and Secretly Group label rosters – the two imprints have been long-time supporters of Music Declares Emergency. The artists whose music appears on the record are Angel Olsen (with the title track from her recent album Big Time), Porridge Radio (with ‘Back To The Radio’, the lead single from third album Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky), Bicep (with the single ‘Atlas’, from 2021 album Isles), and Black Country, New Road (with ‘Bread Song’, from recent record Ants From Up There.

Music Declares Emergency will be giving away 20 copies of the bioplastic record, and people can enter a prize draw to win one by donating to a Crowdfunder campaign that the organisation has set up. Funds from the campaign will go towards supporting Music Declares Emergency’s work in the UK.

In a note accompanying the Crowdfunder campaign, Music Declares Emergency wrote: "This release will be the first publicly available example of a new bioplastic vinyl alternative developed by Evolution Music as part of their mission to decarbonise the production of physical product in the music business."

Formed by a group of UK-based artists and music industry professionals in London in 2019, Music Declares Emergency has since expanded to three continents and now works with people from across various sectors of the global music industry. Find out more about the organisation via its website.
