Sacred Bones has confirmed plans to reissue a number of releases by late Canadian composer Mort Garson.
Three of his early electronic albums – Didn’t You Hear, Black Mass and The Unexplained – are being reissued, alongside a compilation of previously unreleased music titled Music From Patch Cord Productions. You can hear the title track from Didn’t You Hear just below.
That album, released in 1983, was composed for director Skip Sherwood’s film of the same name. One of the of the first all-electronic film scores, it could originally only be heard at screenings of the movie in Seattle.
Black Mass was originally released in 1971 under Garson’s Lucifer moniker, while The Unexplained (which was subtitled ‘Electronic Musical Impressions Of The Occult’) dates back to 1975 and was Garson’s only release under the Ataraxia alias.
Music From Patch Cord Productions takes in rare and unreleased recordings from Garson’s archive, including music for never-aired radio advertisements, "erotic oddities" and alternate takes of tracks from his 1976 Plantasia album, a record that was very rare and highly sought after before Sacred Bones reissued it last year.
Sacred Bones will release Didn’t You Hear, Black Mass, The Unexplained, and Music From Patch Cord Productions on November 6, 2020.
