Morrissey To Stand For London Mayor?

Former Smiths frontman is reportedly seriously considering an offer from the Animal Welfare Party to stand in the upcoming election

Morrissey is apparently considering putting himself forward as a candidate in the upcoming London mayoral elections.

As The Guardian reports, Moz has been approached to stand for mayor by the Animal Welfare Party and according to the website True To You, Morrissey’s preferred fansite, he is “considering the contest very seriously”. In a statement issued to the site, Morrissey said: “There must be a governmental voice against the hellish and archaic social injustice allotted to animals in the United Kingdom simply because those animals do not speak English.”

He goes on to call abattoirs “the modern continuation of the Nazi concentration camp” and Jamie Oliver an “animal serial killer”. The Animal Welfare Party confirms it has asked Morrissey to stand though he will need to collect 330 signatures in order to appear on ballot papers for the election which takes place on May 5.
