Morrissey Claims Last Ever UK Dates

Former Smiths frontman claims his next two UK shows will be his last ever in the UK

Morrissey has issued a statement to fans saying that his next two UK shows will likely be his last ever in the country.

Morrissey puts the move down to a failure to secure a new record deal after he was dropped by Harvest Records last year. His deal with the label lasted months and fell apart after the former Smiths frontman accused the label of not sufficiently promoting his last album. He has failed to find a new record deal since. In a statement issued on fan site True To You Morrissey said: “There is absolutely no way that we can generate any interest from record labels in the United Kingdom, therefore the imminent two nights at Hammersmith are likely to be our final ever UK shows.

“We are obsessively grateful for all interest and loyalty from our audience … throughout 28 years … but without new releases, there is no point in any additional touring. Thank you for so many absolutely incredible times. The pleasure and privilege is mine…” Those UK dates will be this weekend when Morrissey plays London’s Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on September 20 and 21.
