LISTEN: Minotaur Shock On New Label Bytes

Bristol's Minotaur Shock turns his focus to electronics on his first album under the alias in seven years

Next month will see the launch of newly-minted label Bytes with a release from Bristol producer Minotaur Shock.

MINO follows on from 2012’s Orchard, and sees Minotaur Shock put aside the acoustic guitars, drums and woodwind of that record for a more electronic-focused effort. Above, you can hear ‘Grey’, which is the second track to be unveiled from the album.

"I knew what effect certain knobs on a synth had, but had no idea why they did that or what was really going on," the producer says of his decision to get to grips with machines for the new record. From here, he set off experimenting with the synths, a period which he describes as "basically dicking around in my studio, focusing on the process of creating tracks and sounds, rather than the end result, trying to grasp the fundamentals of synthesis to better understand how it worked."

Those experiments have now been fashioned into the producer’s first album as Minotaur Shock in seven years and will be released digitally and on cassette on April 5. You can pre-order it here.
