A previously unheard Miles Davis album dating back to 1985 is finally set for release this September.
Davis began work on Rubberband in October of 1985, the year he parted ways with his record label of 30 years, Columbia Records, to join Warner Bros. Records. He set out working on the album in Los Angeles with producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles, who’ve been enlisted to finish the record now for its release, alongside Davis’ nephew Vince Wilburn Jr., who played the drums on the original sessions for the album in 1985 and 1986.
The album saw Davis letting in funk and soul influences, but it was ultimately shelved with Davis going on to record the album Tutu, leaving the tracks unheard.
The release of Rubberband comes with liner notes from George Cole, writer of The Last Miles, and features an original painting by Miles Davis as the cover art. It will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally on September 6 via Rhino/Warner Records.
