WATCH: Bernard Szajner Mini-Doc

Premiere of short film about French electronic pioneer; new EP, Rethinking Z, out this week, with Szajner heading to London for Convergence next week

The lush new edition of Bernard Szajner’s 1979 debut album as Z, Visions of Dune, made the Quietus’ top 10 reissues of last year, and its widespread acclaim has prompted a flurry of activity from the French electronic pioneer. A new EP, Rethinking Z, out via his label InFiné and Warp in the UK this week, features remixes and reworkings of tracks from Visions by the likes of Scanner, Irène Drésel and Iranian producer Siavash Amini, as well as Szajner himself in collaboration with Etienne Jaumet and Almeeva, as well as a new track ‘1oopsyloopsylotsylots’. Now, to celebrate the release, we’re pleased to present Tom Colvile, Nathan Gibson & Abdullah Al-wali’s new short film ‘Meeting Bernard Szajner’, featuring an exclusive interview in Szajner’s workshop and footage of a recent Paris show – take a look above.

As part of French Digital Waves, a series of events in and around Convergence festival supported by Bureau Export, Institut Français, the Mairie de Paris and Noise of Art, Szajner will also be at Rough Trade East on Friday 13 March in conversation, with White Noise’s David Vorhaus. The event is free and full details are here.
