Mdou Moctar Detail New Album, ‘Funeral For Justice’

The Nigerien quartet's follow-up to 2021's 'Afrique Victime' will be released in May

Mdou Moctar have a new album, titled Funeral For Justice, on the way.

Spanning nine tracks, it marks the Nigerien quartet’s first full-length release since 2021’s Afrique Victime. The new record aims to convey the plight of Niger and the Tuareg people in the wake of ongoing terrorist violence and interventions by the US and governments of European countries. You can watch a video for the album’s title track below.

“This album is really different for me,” Mdou Moctar, the band’s singer and guitarist, said in a statement. “Now the problems of terrorist violence are more serious in Africa. When the US and Europe came here, they said they’re going to help us, but what we see is really different. They never help us to find a solution.”

Matador will release Funeral For Justice on May 3, 2024.
