Starting on Wednesday, The Yard theatre in Hackney Wick will be playing host to the Matryoshka festival, four nights of, in succession, word, movement, sound and image.
On the bill for the first night is friend of the Quietus, the resident hip-hop maestro of Hackney, Akira The Don, as well as Iain Sinclair, who’ll be engaging in a roundtable discussion titled The Word And The Wick with Goldsmiths lecturer Isaac Marrero-Guillamón.
On Thursday, October 10, Movement will encompass the Folded Feather puppetry company, Laura Cylon performing Shibari, Japanese rope bondage and madcap performance artists, Sam Hague’s Circus Band.
Friday sees MyDanceTheSkull going head-to-head with the Hekate Sound System for the Sound night, while Saturday brings proceedings to a close with Image, a collision of film and music from Orchestra Elastique, Mortalitech & S/W/I/M and Nova, as well as a screening of Tom Metcalfe and John Rowley’s film The Wick.
