LISTEN: New Matmos Single

Matmos share the first taste of their upcoming plastic-inspired album

Matmos have shared a new track, titled ‘Silicone Gel Implant’. You can hear it below.

The track is the first to be unveiled from the duo’s forthcoming album Plastic Anniversary. The album sees the pair make tracks entirely from plastic objects, and as you might have guessed, for ‘Silicone Gel Implant’, they’ve used sounds derived from a silicone breast implant. They also use plastic flutes, PVC Panflute and percussion by Greg Saunier of Deerhoof on the track.

The album, a press release said when it was announced last month, has been put together as a celebration of Matmos’ "own anniversary as a couple" while exploring "the world’s relationship to plastic." Amongst the other objects used to make the album are Bakelite dominos, Styrofoam coolers, police riot shields, polyethylene waste containers, bubble wrap and synthetic human fat.

Plastic Anniversary will be released by Thrill Jockey on March 15.
