This week, we’re hosting a series of five video interviews from the upcoming documentary The Holy Bible: My Testament. Produced by Cardiff-based outfit Barefoot Rascals and presented by Simon Price, it coincides with the band playing the album live in full to mark its 20th anniversary, which culminated this week with three shows at London’s Roundhouse.
Today’s video features rock photographer Kevin Cummins, whose catalogue includes pictures of Mick Jagger, Ian Curtis, Morrissey, Courtney Love, Patti Smith and David Bowie. Cummins has done numerous sessions with the Manic Street Preachers, and has put together a book of his favourite photographs from these selections called Assassinated Beauty. He and Simon discuss the dynamics within the group and analyse a selection of Cummins’ best work with the band. Says Cummins: "To photograph them I quickly realised the dynamic was Nicky and Richey… James looks like their tour manager, and Sean looks like their kid brother who they’ve had to bring along because they couldn’t get a babysitter. They didn’t quite gel offstage, I think it took them almost a year."
Take a look at some of Cummins’ Manics shots in our gallery here and stay tuned for another video tomorrow.
