Manchester International Festival Unveils 2023 Lineup

Ryuichi Sakamoto and Janelle Monáe are among the musicians involved in this year's event

Manchester International Festival has unveiled the full programme for its 2023 edition, taking place this June to July.

The festival will cover an extensive range of musical performances, talks and readings, among other disciplines. For one performance, titled Kagami, Ryuichi Sakamoto will link up with mixed reality production studio Tin Drum. As part of the hour-long show, which will take up residence from June 29 to July 9, audiences will wear optically-transparent devices to view the virtual Sakamoto performing on a piano alongside dimensional art aligned with the music.

Another show will see dance company L-E-V link up with the London-based record label Young to celebrate club culture at Manchester’s New Century Hall nightclub. Ben UFO will DJ as part of this series, which runs from July 13 to 16.

Further music performances taking place across the three-week-long festival will come from the likes of Janelle Monáe, Alison Goldfrapp, Angélique Kidjo, Anna Meredith, AFRODEUTSCHE, The Comet Is Coming, and John Grant & The Richard Hawley band. Actor Maxine Peake and footballer Juan Mata will be involved in various other events taking place across the programme.

Manchester International Festival will take place from June 29 to July 16, 2023. Find more information here.
