Madonnatron’s rock & roll foray into “psychedelic witch prog” continues apace. They’ve been back in the studio since their debut album last summer, and the first two delicious tracks are here for your pleasure.
‘Mermaids’ is a cautionary tale (or a promise) for any among us making terrible but enjoyable life decisions. “She heard the sirens and she could not stop,” they croon. “Now she’s on the rocks and she’s all washed up.” It’s like Buffy Sainte-Marie’s ‘Tall Trees In Georgia’ rebuilt by Siouxsie and Nina Hagen.
The second song, ‘Ich Liebe Dich’, is Gainsbourg & Birkin’s ‘Je T’aime… Moi Non Plus’ switched from the leery-cutesy-cheesy original in French to a spooky-thudding-swirling version in German, with a sprinkling of a very very stoned Stone Roses riff. A magnificent pisstake, really, with a really good bassline.
AND they’re touring the UK, this month and next – details right here.
