Luke Haines For Next Klub Gutenberg!

Plus! Rock stars & food!

Last Thursday, we had what marketing men and women call the ‘soft launch’ of Klub Gutenberg at the Old Queen’s Head, Islington. Needless to say, this was far from soft stuff. Our quiz caused much bafflement, even disgust, Jock Scott delivered material from what he described as his "golden age", and people actually did shut up to hear Roy Wilkinson read from one of the LSD-tinged passages of Do It For Your Mum, accompanied by flute.

We’re therefore very pleased to announce that on November 8th the full-and-proper first Klub Gutenberg will feature non other than Mr Luke Haines playing his new album Nine And A Half Psychedelic Meditations On British Wrestling Of The 1970s And Early ’80s from beginning to end. The record makes for an uproarious and melodically rich look at such grapple titans as Giant Haystacks and Kendo Nagasaki, and the performance will be followed by much loved old compositions.

Then music journalist Andrew Harrison will present an audio-visual talk on his book Love Music Love Food: The Rock Star Cookbook – a book published in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and centring on amazing rock/grub images from the celebrated food photographer Patrice de Villiers. Hear how Siouxsie Sioux came to be engulfed by beans on toast! Ascertain whether Tinie Tempah really is the king of tiny tempura! Tickets are on sale now, priced £8, from We Got Tickets.
