Lorenzo Senni Announces First Album For Warp Records

The eight-track record sees the Italian producer build on his "pointillistic" trance style

Lorenzo Senni has announced his first album for Warp Records.

Titled Scacco Matto, it’s preceded by lead track ‘Discipline of Enthusiasm’, which you can listen to above. It’s his fifth LP in total and comes six years on from 2014’s Boomkat Editions-released Superimpositions.

Scacco Matto is described as a continuation of Senni’s distinctive "pointillistic" trance style, previously heard on records like Superimpositions and 2016’s Persona EP, which marked his debut on Warp.

"The title means ‘check mate’ in Italian, and there’s a constant ‘opponent’ within the tracks – like I was playing a chess game with myself," explains Senni. "I was really trying to bring the music to a certain place and then switch advantageously to another approach. I wanted to see how far I could push the ideas I’ve been developing since [2012’s] Quantum Jelly and in order to do that, I needed to force self-imposed limits and rules."

Warp Records will release Scacco Matto on April 24.

Senni will follow its release with live appearance at London’s Village Underground (May 27), Barcelona’s Primavera Sound (June 5) and Berghain in Berlin (June 10). For more information on his upcoming tour dates, click here.
