Longplayer Day Festival Set For This Month

The festival, focusing on themes of time and longevity, will feature a number of tQ-favourite artists, musicians and speakers

The Longplayer Trust and Goldsmiths University will come together later this month to host the second biennial festival Longplayer Day.

The festival features musicians, artists and speakers like Ryoko Akama, David Toop, Oliver Coates, Rhodri Davies, Max Eastley, Shiva Feshareki, Áine O’Dwyer, Lee Patterson, Jennifer Walshe and more. Longplayer Day’s structure allows guests to choose their own schedule for the day, as they are free to join any event whenever they want.

Performances will happen in a wide variety of settings, from abandoned police stations to the shoreline of the Thames, eventually coming to an end at the Trinity Buoy Wharf at sunset. There, Jem Finer will show off his composition Longplayer, which inspired the festival. This thousand-year long project curates performances, talks, publications and other commissions that explore time.

Finer’s goal is to inspire audiences to think about their long-term behaviours and how they affect the environment and the world around them. To reflect this, Longplayer Day occurs on or around the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.

All events are free to access. For more information on the event, which will take place on June 20, check out the Longplayer Day website.
