WATCH: Lone Taxidermist Becomes VU & Melt!

Record Store Day looms which means that, once again, Natalie Sharp is turning her face into different famous record sleeves

To mark Record Store Day, taking place on April 18 this year, Natalie Sharp, aka Quietus favourite Lone Taxidermist and face painter par excellence, is transforming her face into a series of famous record sleeves. Last year, she did eight, including Remain In Light, Unknown Pleasures and Screamadelica – have a look here – but this year, having garnered ideas from Facebook friends, she’s setting her sights on 40. Yes, you read that right, 40. Says Natalie: "After the unexpected success of last year’s Record Store Day face paints. I’ve taken it upon myself to paint my face as a piece of vinyl art based on the suggestions of the Republic of Facebook. I will be doing this every day between now and RSD and time-lapse-filming the very long process. Tubular Bells took seven hours, which means my time-lapse was cut short. As I paint each sleeve I will only be listening to that record on repeat. I also wanted to redress the lack of female band suggestions by painting something very personal on my face which will also be revealed. Not all of the suggestions made the edit, including the Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden."

As a taster, here’s Natalie as The Velvet Underground & Nico and there’s a time-lapse video of her transformation below. Stay tuned for further updates on Natalie’s venture and if you’d like to hire the finest face painter in the land or simply wish to have your visage made into Loveless, head to her website here.

Update: You can also see Natalie take on Peter Gabriel’s eponymous 1980 album, also known as Melt below.
