London mayor Boris Johnson has revealed plans for a Night Time Commission in the capital.
As Resident Advisor reports, the commission will entail a six-month investigation into “what should be done to protect and manage the nighttime economy” in the capital. The commission, which will reveal its findings in autumn of this year, will “make recommendations about measures to support the nighttime economy” with Boris Johnson acknowledging that rising demands for housing, licensing requirements and various other forms of red tape are harming London’s nighttime industry. “If we are to compete against other world cities, it is vital that we develop policies to reconcile the competing needs and concerns.”
The news follows this morning’s revelation that new legislation will be implemented from next month to protect UK music venues from property development.
