WATCH: Lizzo’s Minneapolis Short Film

Tape Adapter favourite talks about becoming an MC and raps on the banks of the Mississippi River in new video

Writing in last week’s Full Clip hip hop albums round-up, tQ’s Gary Suarez picked out Lizzobangers, the recently-expanded debut LP by Minneapolis-via-Houston MC Lizzo, as one of the finest in recent months, saying: "There’s no gimmick here, just solid rhymes over peppy beats like its going out of style […] what Lizzo does feels special and even a bit rare given the trap-centrism sucking in so much of air in contemporary rap."

Now, ahead of her appearances at Leeds and Reading later this month and some support slots with Chvrches starting in October and as part of Sunrise, Sunset, Nowness‘ collaborative series with film-makers Yours Truly, we’ve got the above video of Lizzo tripping around her home town, demonstrating some of her classically-trained flute skills and reflecting on how she transitioned from a silent 20-year-old to a dexterous MC.
