LISTEN: Liturgy – Reign Array

Mammoth face-blaster of Brooklynites' new album, The Ark Work

Liturgy are putting out their third album, The Ark Work, on March 24 via Thrill Jockey. It’s been two years in the making, with composition beginning after the band had toured 2011’s Aesthethica, and represents what they see as the greatest realisation of their gloriously-monikered "transcendental black metal" sonic approach. Folded in there are hardstyle beats, "occult-oriented rap" and IDM, the label tell us, as well as other forms from further back in musical history, the latter cropping up on ‘Reign Array’, which you can play above. Liturgy main man Hunter Hunt-Hendrix’s synthetic baroque harpsichord notes echo into space before being entirely subsumed by a relentless wall of pulverising guitar and Greg Fox’s tumultuous drumming, a furious, ascendant onslaught that barely lets up for the tracks near-11-minute duration.

Pre-order here and catch them at Supersonic festival in Birmingham in June.
