Bonkers San Franciscan noice-pop four-piece Deerhoof have released a new AA side EP this week, ‘Mario’s Flaming Whiskers III/There’s That Grin’, via ATP.
It takes a couple of highlights from recent album Breakup Song and matches them up with a new cut, ‘Just For That’, a live recording of them performing the Velvet Underground’s ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’ (appropriately taken from their 2009 10 Years Of ATP Festival set) and a remix by Silver Apples’ Simeon (who recently wrote us a Baker’s Dozen) – have a listen to ‘Mario’s Flaming Dessert’ here, and watch the video for the original track below:
Speaking about the reworking at the hands of the electronics pioneer, band member Satomi Matsuzaki says: "Silver Apples is my favorite artist. When I moved to San Francisco in 1994, my friend Cole Palme introduced me the music. I was so into it and bought the original vinyl of the first album for 130 dollars! I had never paid that much for a record. I am super excited that Simeon remixed our song that I wrote."
Greg Saunier adds the decidedly more cerebral: "Master Chef Simeon cooked us up a silver apple pie just like grandma never used to make. The maestro’s abilities know no bounds. The icing is the new synthesizers he added. Thank you Simeon."
