On his third album, No Perfect Wave, C. Diab continues to interpret the barren, dramatic surroundings of his Vancouver island residence. Released on Injazero Records, the album, as ever, showcases C.Diab’s skilful use of tape manipulation and his experimentations in both guitar and trumpet playing.
Following on with the similar experimentations that he begun on previous albums, Beacons and Interludes, C.Diab plays what he refers to as ’Cascadian guitar music’. This involves bowed acoustic guitar, which, here, is played with the sensitivity and emotional precision of Arthur Russell’s cello pieces.
Unlike the previous two albums, C. Diab’s latest sounds more distant and melancholy, occasionally making his noise influences more apparent through scratching guitar strings with his bow. No Perfect Wave was also engineered by fellow Canadian, experimental singer and tape composer Ian William Craig, who gives its passages and interludes an immediate, lo-fi quality.
Bonus tracks from this album can be listened to above whle C.Diab embarks on a tour of several dates in the UK from tomorrow (October 22). You can check the list of dates below.
