LISTEN: The Earlies Return

British/American band return from eight-year hiatus; listen to a track taken from their new EP below

After eight years on hiatus, psychedelic British/American outfit the Earlies are returning for some shows and a new EP released to coincide with the dates. The track premiering above, ‘Abandon’, is one of those taken from the new Message From Home EP.

‘Abandon’ suggests that no connection between the group’s members has been lost in their time apart, maintaining the multi-instrumental elements of their past. The Earlies released debut album These Were The Earlies a decade ago, following it up in 2007 with a second album before retreating into hiatus. The band’s Christian Madden says “we’re going for a less conventional but nonetheless poignant eleven year anniversary,” of their reunion shows. “We had planned to get together to mark the ten year anniversary of the album but we’re a slow moving entity.” One half of the band’s four core members currently reside in Texas, while the other half are based in Lancashire. “We decided to start writing together again and in some ways it was just like the old days, but in others it was a great deal easier,” Madden says, referring to the group’s studios on both sides of the Atlantic, a privilege they did not have recording their debut album. As well as headlining Clitheroe’s Cloudspotting Festival, the group will play a number of intimate live dates across the UK in July – the full list is below.

July 2015 Dates

24 – Glasgow, Drygate Theatre

25 – Lancashire, Cloudspotting Festival (headline artist)

28 – Bristol, Exchange

29 – Manchester, Band on the Wall

31 – London, The Shacklewell Arms
