LISTEN: New Besnard Lakes

First play of track from new album, due in March

Montreal-based dream rockers The Besnard Lakes have just announced the upcoming release of their brand new album, christened with the wonderfully oblique name Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO (artwork below), which is set to come out on April 2 via Jagjaguwar – have a listen to ‘People Of The Sticks’ from the LP below:

The track is characteristic for their exacting approach: Goreas’s hazed vocals are matched to almost – but not quite – languid guitar strums, lying over a precise, unfurling rhythm, all of which gets pinned to a central, magnetised synth swell halfway through; a magnificently promising precursor to the full-length.

The album is the follow-up to 2010’s masterful The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night, and the band, centred around husband and wife duo Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, enlisted a number of collaborators to work on the record, notably Moonface’s Spencer Krug and Mike Bigelow and The Barr Brothers’ Sarah Page.

Lasek told us the album was recorded "at Breakglass in Montreal, as always. I was producing, engineering and mixing and Olga was producing and engineering."

"We’ve mostly just been in the studio recording. Alongside our album, I also produced a few other bands at Breakglass during the gap," he said, adding that the Quietus favourites High On Fire and Om, as well as The Walker Brothers and Fever Ray were all on the stereo during the recording process.

He also told us "as soon as the album is released we will be touring everywhere", so watch this space for more details.
